“Jesus said “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 (NIV)
We recently celebrated Mother’s Day. Many of us moms were treated to lunches, flowers, and a day off! We were blessed to be surrounded by our loved ones…especially our precious children. It made me think about those Nigerian moms whose daughters were abducted over 1 month ago, praying for their girls to come home. The emotional turmoil they must be going through.
It is interesting enough that when tragedies like this occur; the world looks up and asks the question “Where is God in all of this? If He is truly a loving God, why would he permit this?” I would dare to say that Believers may ask the same question. The answer is simple; God is in control and is sovereign in EVERY situation. But let us not forget that the world is ruled by Satan himself. The bible has labelled him as the Prince of the Air (Ephesians 2:2) and he has agents that are working for him.
In situations such as this one, as Believers we have to continue to trust our God. But we can also take it a step further. As parents who believe in the promises of God, we are to declare and decree these promises everyday upon our precious children. Before they leave the house, during the day, pray for their precious lives. Pray the promises of Psalm 91 over them and plead a Blood covering over their lives and dwelling places for that day. I anoint my son daily with anointing oil before he leaves for school.
Parents do not underestimate the power of prayer, nor your role in the lives of your children. Let’s use the power that God has given to us!
